What began as a post-World War II effort by France to restore its international influence developed into a far-reaching political and economic relationship between Europe and the Arab world. This presentation examines the origins of the Franco-Arab dialogue and how the wars between Israel and its Arab neighbors, particularly the Six-Day War of 1967 and the Yom Kippur War of 1973, helped shape Europe's evolving Middle East policy. It explores how Europe's desire for economic growth, access to oil, and political influence became intertwined with the demands and objectives of the Arab League.
Join Ron Matsen in this presentation which traces the development of the European-Arab Dialogue and its alleged long-term impact on European politics, immigration, cultural identity, and attitudes toward Israel. He examines the competing agendas behind this relationship, including the transfer of technology, the expansion of Muslim immigration into Europe, and the growing influence of Arab political and religious perspectives within European institutions. He also raises challenging questions about Europe's changing relationship with Israel, its historical ties to America, and the preservation of its own cultural identity.
